December 27, 2011Inhaler Staff ‘top 5′ end of year lists: Stuff we liked in 2011.

#2 Rob – (co-founder / controller of technological endeavours)

1) Best gig for me was Superchunk at London Scala. One of my favourite bands for many years and, after many attempts to see them, eventually made it happen.

2) Most rockingest record of this year has to be Kvelertak’s self-titled offering – a solid wedge of pure unadulterated punk rock. If you enjoyed Refused’s offerings in the 90s you’ll love this Scandanavian attack – you can even have a good sing-along if your Norwegian is upto scratch.

3) Wilco’s ‘The Whole Love’ showed a return to form not to be sniffed at – the track “I might” has made it onto every compilation I’ve made this year.

4) I’m with Andy on the Hospitality record, it’s a beauty. Intricate and clever song-writing that feels like pure, romantic nostalgia. (The Crooked Fingers album is a treat too though…)

5) Number five has to be what you’re looking at – although still a little green around the gills the web stuff we’ve built recently is gaining momentum and we’ll be tying it all together with the shop and some artist websites over the coming weeks.

#1 Andy (Bookings/press dude/co-founder).

1. Best gig by a long shot was Archers of Loaf @ Cargo in London. I waited 18 years to see this lot.

2. Hospitality’s self titled Merge Records debut (promo) isn’t out till 2012, but it will be a one to watch. Solid  first  album and every song is a potential single.

3. Crooked Fingers ‘Breaks in the Armor’ is the best record of the year without a shadow of a doubt. Meant a lot to me at a difficult time.

4. Above Them ‘are we a danger to ourselves?’(promo) – again, not out  till 2012, but marks another evolution by the band. Go get this.

5. Hammer No More the Fingers ‘Black Shark’  album & UK Tour – I love these guys like brothers, and hope that Jack over at Alcopop!   Records is going to take good care of them. I’m sure he will and that they will go on to get the success they deserve!

December 19, 2011Eric Bachmann – a belated thanks.

Inhaler Recordings would like to thank Eric Bachmann for his amazing kindness and hospitality,  and for  giving two 30 something, unorganised slackers the opportunity to realise the life long dream of seeing Archers of Loaf live a couple of weeks back at Cargo in London.

For reasons  I have not yet identified, I missed the ticket sale and before I knew it the show was (obviously) sold out. Eric swooped to the rescue, and without any prompting offered us a +1 to the only other show they were playing while here in the UK for ATP.

Eric you are a true gent, we salute you.

Eric’s current band Crooked Fingers have just released ‘Breaks in the Armor’, an album which I believe to be not only the best of the year, but easily the last 10, and Archers of Loaf will continue to have their back catalogue released by the ever reliable Merge Records over the coming year.

If you are not aware of Eric or his work, then firstly you are missing out and secondly you should be ashamed of yourself…

First piece of news is that we will be announcing a new overseas band to the roster soon, the band (we’ll name them soon!) are receiving excellent press in the USA with some pretty impressive Pitchfork, NPR and other reviews of late.
